Using liquid fossil fuels like diesel, fuel oil, or bunker fuel causes pollution problems due to the incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons.

Between 3% and 12% of the fuel that is not burnt-out is because of problems in the facilities, chemical composition of the fuel and operational practices, making it to be wasted and thrown into the atmosphere through industrial smokestacks. These pollutants are particles and gaseous hydrocarbons that in contact with carbon dioxide contribute in a significative way to generate the climate change.
